China Protest Beijing Demonstrator Sparks

A rare and dramatic protest in Beijing that criticized President Xi Jinping has sparked an online hunt for the identity of the mystery protester, as well as praise for the action.

A protester mounted the Sitong Bridge in Beijing’s Haidian district and hung two large banners calling for an end to China’s harsh zero-covid policy and the ouster of Mr. Xi.

Thursday’s protest came on the eve of a historic Communist Party congress where Mr. Xi is set to be handed a third term as party chief, consolidating his power.
