Taking Action

My main priorities for the near future, when it comes to the environment, is to learn as much as I can about how I might be able to make a more significant difference. While I’m learning I can still do things like trying my best to recycle, buy less stuff, use less of what I do use, try not to eat things like meat, and volunteering. I haven’t done too much volunteering recently besides a trash clean up but I’m in a club that should have some upcoming events. The club that I am in is called Mule Deer Foundation and even though they do have a lot of stuff that revolves around hunting, they try to improve the ecosystem. They do this because they know improving the ecosystem will help the animals that live in it. Some of the upcoming events in the near future that I can hopefully attend are fence removal and checking cattle tanks. Hopefully going to these will allow me to talk to whoever is there so I can learn more about the environment and restoration/removal processes.

I’m not too sure what I want to do but I do know that I would like a job that allows me to do hands-on work outside. I don’t like to spend most of my day inside when it is nice out. I also don’t want to be somebody who never did anything to try and help save the planet. I haven’t really thought about what I want to do in the long term but I would like to get a job that works with animals or the environment. I have looked at some nongovernment funded organizations but I heard it is difficult to get a paying job in one without knowing someone or having experience. Some of the places I found in Flagstaff from a quick Google search are American Conservation Experience, Arizona Conservation Corps, and Willow Bend Environmental Education Center.
