Matched Betting with multiple accounts

This article is going to explain the subject of Matched Betting with multiple accounts. The practice of opening more than one account at each bookmaker, also known as ‘Gnoming’ and ‘Multi Accounting’, has always been a controversial and hushed up topic in the matched betting community.

In practice it involves holding and running accounts in other peoples’ names, usually family members and close friends. This allows the person running the accounts to make considerably more money for every set of accounts they make. As they scale their matched betting operation it can potentially make their venture significantly more lucrative.

It is essential that you have permission to matched bet on behalf of somebody else and you won’t get very far without that. It is also important that this is a person you trust and vice-versa. Ideally a family member or close friend.

There are 3 other vital pieces of information which must be different to your original accounts. Theses different credentials stop your new account being linked to your original account.

The person whose identity you are using to open new accounts with will need to have a different postal address to you. This means if it is a family member you are using they will need to live at a different address to you.

There are a select few bookmakers which are ‘Partner Friendly’. Ladbrokes, Sky Bet and Bet Victor are, or were recently partner friendly. This means you and your partner can both sign up to the same Bookmaker and take advantage of their offers, while both residing at the same address.

You will need to get the person who you are matched betting for to set up a new bank account in their name. You will have control over this account and be in possession of the debit card. Sometimes when setting up a new bank account you may need to go into the branch with ID to verify identity. Obviously the person you are matched betting for will have to do this.

Alternatively, if the person has an old and unused bank account this could be used instead of setting up a new bank account.

An IP address is a label which is used to identify a computer on the internet. Essentially, it shows the bookmaker where you’re accessing the internet from. If the bookmakers see activity on two accounts coming from one IP address, it will most likely result in the accounts being closed.

NordVPN is one of the best VPN providers around. I’ve been using it for matched betting and for all my other internet use over the past two years.

Another way the bookmakers track you is through your MAC address. This is embedded in the network card in your laptop. To get round this you will have to use a different laptop to your original set of matched betting accounts. If you have a spare laptop lying around by all means use that, as its the cheapest way to go.

If you don’t have a spare device lying around, buy a cheap phone. Then using your new phone you can either:

I prefer the VPN method as it is more cost effective than taking out a new phone contract.

With most bookmakers you agree to a set of the terms and conditions when you open the account and they usually include the phrase ‘Bonus Abuse’ — whereby they can close your account if they suspect you of this. In other words, Matched Betting is not in the spirit of what bookmakers want you to do. Bookmakers see matched bettors as a mild annoyance and are taking steps to protect themselves against Bonus Abuse.

The Bookmaker’s view on matched betting with multiple accounts is going to be far stricter. Whether this crosses a line in the sand of more serious consequences I am not sure. Assuming another identity and going to lengths to stop the bookmaker knowing this and then systematically exploiting their free bets. When matched betting is ramped up to include multiple accounts it is a bit of a different proposition. Is it illegal? We have found nothing conclusive, but perhaps this questioning arising is suggestion enough that we are toeing the line here. It is a very grey area.
