How to Develop Patience in Three Simple Ways

You have to wait and earn it.

Simon gives an example of how numerous millennials, who want to make an impact, aspire to be at the top of this mountain called “success”. But, what they fail to see is the mountain or the climb itself. This climb represents the patience or the hard-working attitude, which we all need to input before we make any sort of impact.

A Serious “Lack”

In our journey to success, the word “journey” represents the term patience.

A habit of doing the necessary tasks every single day, without having any questions, doubts or concerns, builds your character. You start to enjoy this journey and eventually, fall in love with the process.

Once you get hooked, trust me, there is nothing better than that feeling of fulfillment. This is the reason as to why all the successful people say that “it's their hustle that we enjoy the most”.

So, this journey really is the destination.

How to?

If you’re at that stage, where the struggle has become extremely hard and the one thing you always wanted is starting to fade away, leaving you at the very brink of giving up and making you think that all your dreams have been shattered then, I’ve got something to say to you guys.

In this article, I aim to highlight a few methods in order to develop patience. These tips and techniques come straight from my personal experience and research. I hope you guys find some value in these pointers. 😃

Let’s jump right in.

Meditation has an immediate relationship with developing patience. Aligning your thoughts in a way that they become your greatest strengths is a direct result of meditation. By closing your eyes and focussing on what you think and, more importantly, how you think, can give you a better understanding of yourself. This is essential for building patience.

Living in the 21st century, getting access to meditation tools is not as hard as you think. Just pull out your phone, download any of the following apps and you’ll be good to go.

I can confidently say that meditation can allow you to conquer your mind effectively. It also teaches you how to attain that state of patience, which can have a positive impact on your mental as well as physical health.

Although the availability of tools and technology won’t be an issue, it is the “lack of time” which limits a lot of us to practice meditation. I understand that in this super-busy life, it becomes hard for people to take a break for something like “mindfulness”.

Knowing the importance of meditation and its positive impact on my life, I can guarantee you that by performing a short 15 minutes concentration exercise daily, you can increase your patience abilities to an extreme.

By taking this time to channel your thoughts, you can improve not only your critical thinking skills but also, can achieve a greater understanding of your personal headspace. All of this will lead to a solid establishment of patience.

2) Boiling Water

The heading might sound a bit strange but, trust me, it’ll make a lot of sense. The entire idea is that I want you guys to repeat an activity daily that can help you to build patience.

This could be anything that requires some amount of “waiting” before its completion. In other words, an activity that has no shortcuts. The process, therefore, would require you to stand there and wait until it's fully completed. The activity will take as much time as it needs but, you’d have to go through that uncomfortable phase of “waiting for it to be over”.

The activity could include many different things ranging from writing a journal, gardening, making furniture etc. The important thing is that you’d have to put in some amount of effort first and then earn your results.

For example, boiling water in a saucepan has taught me how to build patience. As crazy as it sounds, it has made me understand the value of my efforts and the importance of waiting. Therefore, I tend to wake up early just to boil some water in order to enhance my patience levels.

I'd recommend that you find your activity and do the same.

3) Read about Patience

I’ve always lived by the rule that “we are a result of the company we keep and the books we read.” The platform of Medium is an excellent resource for both. Just type the word “patience” on Medium and you’ll have access to numerous articles regarding this topic.

Some of my favorite ones include:

Just reading, however, is one thing. You actually have to develop a habit of doing things every single day in order to build patience. Trust me, the positive change in your life will blow your mind.

After creating a solid work ethic, your patience will let you concentrate on your journey rather than its results. In this way, you’ll be able to live a more fulfilling form of lifestyle.

Conclusion

Patience displays the value instilled in our struggles. Personally, it has enabled me to solve problems more creatively and effectively. I believe that anyone, who can set aside a few minutes to develop patience, can achieve an enormous amount of mindfulness.

I hope that, through this article, I was able to highlight a few ways to build patience. If you have some other ways or activities that help you to be more patient, feel free to share them in the comments section below. I’ll look forward to your responses.

Thanks for reading!
